Why ‘Mackerel Sky’?

Lots of clients ask me about the company name. Here is my story: As a child I spent a lot of time on my grandfather’s sheep station and stone fruit orchards. He taught my brothers and me to ‘read’ the skys. Living off the land in regional Australia the weather becomes pretty important. One year an ill-timed hailstorm swept through and wiped out the entire crop and a year’s work on the neighbouring property. It missed my grandfather’s land altogether. He assisted his neighbour’s family to make it through that tough year.

A ‘Mackerel Sky’, he taught us; is a high set cloud formation made of rows of dotted clouds like the rows of dots on the back of the Mackerel fish. The Mackerel Sky always predicts change. In my business running leadership programs I guarantee behavioural change to all my clients. Whether in one-on-one coaching or large culture change projects I measure and report on change. I am continually inspired by the changes my clients make. I am humbled by the opportunity they give me to walk alongside them for a while as they blossom into the new wiser, more influential leader they become.
